Wise Craft, Witchcraft, Wicca.

Far from the stereotype old crone riding a broom looking for children to steal and turning boys into toads, the first wise ones were healers, advisors, agriculturists, herbalists, midwives, artists, tribal leaders, scholars, physicists ... in other words, these people were the most powerful members of the ancient tribes. Their knowledge was passed down from parent to child or to one which exhibited the natural skills necessary for the work. Sure, they kept secrets. Why? Because there were also people who wanted this power to further their own position in the tribe and in doing so subjugate others to their own desires...ancient politicians who were jealous ( not a "wise" emotion) and wanted to rule in their own selfish fashion. Our world's history is filled with the tales of these ruthless villains both past and present. Yet, there is another reason why the "secrets" are kept in the craft.

The main tenet of the craft is, "Do what thou will if it harm none." Not an easy rule to follow in today's beautiful and often selfish world. Imagine every thought and deed returning to you with the strength that your emotions can conjure. First think and act in love and kindness. Then imagine what this energy would be like if it was negatively directed. Ouch! You are totally responsible for your own thoughts and actions. Now multiply this energy by three, then ten. There is no need for a "devil" to blame when your life is governed by such strict codes.

Not everyone today can understand physics or Einstein's theory of relativity. Witches do not consider these just theories but a way of life. You can be a truly religious person in any other faith and still be a witch. So why all the bad press ... the images of ugly and wicked beings called "witches?"

Many of us today have lived through times of hardship and horror caused by those persons who would rule unjustly and with prejudice and sadism. Sadly, history often repeats itself. In the 14th , 15th and 16th centuries, these power-hungry wanted to control the lives of everyone. They thought that by destroying the power of the wise ones, the control would be theirs. And they nearly succeeded. Using the guise of "witchcraft is evil" and setting up a devil to prove it, they slaughtered millions of women, men and children by drowning, burning and torture. Their brainwashing was nearly thorough. By then the wise ones had gone underground and the secrets continued to be kept by the craft.

With the repeal of the Witchcraft Act in the fifties which threatened any who practiced a religion other than the accepted norm, the craft slowly and cautiously, began to reemerge. Finally books were published which told the truth of the Inquisition. Yet, sadly, even though there are laws today which protect an individual's right to practice a personal religion, there remain those who are threatened by imaginary untruths about the craft.

Now we have come full circle ... from the ugly crone with the pointed hat ... to truth and enlightenment. Do your homework. We offer a few suggestions for study on our page of books. Keep an open-mind without learned prejudices and find out the truth for yourselves. Blessed Be!
